One of Donald Trump’s former lawyers is publicly calling for the divisive president to step down from his duties.

Tyler Cobb served on Trump’s legal team from July 2017 to May 2018, with sources at the time citing a planned retirement as the reason he stopped. Now, Cobb is claiming the POTUS should leave office as a result of a supposed deteriorating mental state.

The matter of Trump’s health has been the subject of intense speculation in recent months, with his detractors loudly claiming that the 79-year-old is exhibiting erratic and worrying behavior that means he is no longer fit to run the country.

Trump – who, readers will remember, regularly accused former president Joe Biden of being unfit for office – has repeatedly boasted about acing cognitive tests, while members of his administration have championed the idea that he is in perfect health.

Ty Cobb, however, has made new claims relating to Trump’s governance, telling iNews that he had aides and officials during his first term at the White House (between 2017 and 2021) who would regularly step in to object or attempt to restrain risky and unlawful ideas.

Cobb revealed his belief that for his second stint in the Oval Office, Trump is surrounded by people who won’t challenge him, creating an environment where his whims are no longer subjected to opposition.

The lawyer also made the bold claim that Trump is facing serious cognitive decline, describing a mix of “frontal lobe decline” and “possible dementia.”

“The narcissism has always been an issue for him but in an absence of the impulse control the frontal lobe provides it has unleashed furiously, which is why we see revenge, corruption, delusions of grandeur and [alleged] abuses of power,” Cobb said.

“There has never been a President before who announced war crimes he would commit at 4am or danced on the grave of decorated public servants like Robert Mueller,” he went on.

Cobb warned that as a result, the US is no longer be under stable leadership.

He said: “We’re governed by a madman at this stage, there’s no other way to put it”.

Cobb’s calls echo those of thousands of Trump’s critics, many of whom are convinced that the president’s increasingly erratic and unpredictable actions, both in an official capacity and in the way he interacts with the world on social media via Truth Social, are signs of his allegedly impaired mental faculties.

There have even been calls to invoke the 25th Amendment, which allows a president to be removed if they are deemed unfit for office.

Democrat Jamie Raskin has proposed the formation of a commission to assess Trump’s fitness, working alongside Vice President JD Vance.

“Public trust in Donald Trump’s ability to meet the duties of his office has dropped to unprecedented lows as he threatens to destroy entire civilizations, unleashes chaos in the Middle East while violating congressional war powers, aggressively insults the Pope of the Catholic Church and sends out artistic renderings online likening himself to Jesus Christ,” Raskin warned, per The Mirror.

“We are at a dangerous precipice, and it is now a matter of national security for Congress to fulfill its responsibilities under the 25th Amendment to protect the American people from an increasingly volatile and unstable situation.”
