Ahmed Al Ahmed, the man who became a hero for grappling a gun away from a shooter at Bondi Beach in December 2025, has now been charged.
The Syrian-American was once described as a “real-life hero” after a video of him fighting back against a gunman who opened fire at a crowd of over one thousand people went viral.
Ahmed was gifted $2.5 million in public donations after being injured in the altercation, as he was shot multiple times.
But six months on from the tragic Australian shooting, which resulted in the deaths of 15 people, Ahmed has been charged with domestic assault and stalking.
He has been accused of assaulting his father in an incident at a home in Bankstown, Sydney.
Police officers stated that the dad-of-two is set to appear in Bankstown Local Court on July 29.

Police statement on the charges
New South Wales Police said in a statement: “On Wednesday 3 June 2026 a 44-year-old man was served with a Court Attendance Notice for common assault (DV) and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic).”
Following the charges against Ahmed, police took out an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) against him in order to protect his father.
This document details that Ahmed, 44, must not “assault, stalk, harass, or contact” his father, while also staying 100 metres away from where he lives and works.
Ahmed’s brothers have been charged
The Bondi Beach hero’s two brothers, Hozifah and Sameh Al Ahmed, are also looking at criminal charges.
It was alleged that they threatened Ahmed over the phone for $100,000 each after he received his donation funds worth millions.
Both of them were charged with using a carriage service to menace/harass/offend their older sibling.
They would plead not guilty and would subsequently be released on bail. They are set to appear in court on June 8.

Ahmed’s statement after Bondi Beach attack
Speaking from his hospital bed after successfully grappling the gun from one of the shooters on that fateful day, Ahmed gave Australians an emotional message.
He stated: “When I do save the people, I do it from the heart because it was a nice day, everyone enjoying, celebrating with their kids.
“Woman, man, teenager, all of this, everyone was happy and they deserve to enjoy and it’s their right.
“This country, best country in the world, but we’re not going to stand and keep watching, enough is enough.”
Ahmed risked his life and managed to obtain the weapon from his hands, which left him with severe injuries.
While he was at a high risk of amputation, doctors managed to save his limb following several surgeries.
