Grandma’s 5-Step “Sandals-Soon” Soak for Happy Toenails

You don’t need a salon bill or prescription potions to turn thick, cranky toenails into smooth, respectable little shields. Grandma’s whole kit lives in the kitchen and costs less than a fancy coffee. Once you gather it, the routine takes half an hour, feels like a spa, and works best if you show up three or four nights a week.

Fizz & Soften

Fill a big bowl with comfortably warm water, add ½ cup plain white vinegar and ¼ cup baking soda. The gentle bubbles loosen grime while the acid tells fungus and odor-causing germs they’re not welcome. Slide your feet in for fifteen relaxed minutes. Soft Scrub

Rub a pea-sized dab of coconut or olive oil over each nail and the surrounding skin. Skip pushing oil underneath—keep that area dry. Slip on clean cotton socks to lock in softness and signal bedtime.

Tiny habits matter: trim straight across, rotate shoes so they air out, and change socks daily. Stick with the soak for six to eight weeks; toenails grow like glaciers, but one morning you’ll glance down and realize you’re already planning sandal weather.
